Recovery Act: Federal Funding for Youth Mentoring

As mentioned in last week's Kansas Mentor Connection, when President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 it included $225 million to the US Department of Justice to provide for competitive, peer-reviewed grants to units of state, local and tribal government, as well as to national, regional and local non-profit organizations to "prevent crime, improve the administration of justice, provide services to victims of crime, support critical nurturing and mentoring of at-risk children and youth, and for other similar activities."

Through the Recovery Act, the US Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has announced two grant programs and is currently seeking applications for both.  Applications are due April 20, 2009 and will need to be submitted electronically through OJP's Grants Management System.
