Apprenticeship Opportunities Expanded for Women in Non-Traditional Occupations

Apprenticeship Opportunities Expanded for Women in Non-Traditional Occupations

On March 31, the Employment and Training Administration issued a Solicitation for Grant Applications (SGA) announcing the availability of approximately $1.8 million for the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program.  The grants, administered jointly by the Office of Apprenticeship (OA) and the Women's Bureau, are intended to expand opportunities for women to enter and retain construction occupation employment.

In announcing the grant opportunity, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said the following: "In the America of the 21st century, the role of women in the workplace should be defined by their training and abilities, not their gender.  These grants recognize that women can — and do — excel in a wide range of professions, from construction and manufacturing to science and engineering."  For more on Secretary Solis' announcement, CLICK HERE
