SILCK Needs You..... Help shape public policy

SILCK is currently looking to fill two Board of Director positions open at this time.  If you are interested please fill out the attached membership application and return it back to the SILCK office.  More information about SILCK can be found at www.silck.org or you can contact me at the information below.  **Travel reimbursement is available for all Board Members to participate in Board meetings and official SILCK business**
 
The Statewide Independent Living Council of Kansas (SILCK) is a not-for-profit corporation, governed by a Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor’s office. Nominations from the SILCK are considered.
 
The Council, in conjunction with the Kansas Rehabilitation Services, is responsible for the development of the State Plan for Independent Living.  The SILCK is also responsible for monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the implementation of the State Plan.
 
In accordance with the requirements of the Rehabilitation Act and the Council’s by-laws, the Council will include people with disabilities; parents; representatives of independent living centers; employers; and other individuals interested in services for people with disabilities.

The Health Homes Consumer Tour is coming to a city near you!

KDHE is happy to be visiting 16 cities across Kansas in the coming weeks. Health Homes will start in Kansas July 1, 2014. If you have questions about Health Homes and what they mean for your health, these meetings are for you! The meetings are free and KDHE would love to see you there and tell you about Health Homes in Kansas.
 
Are these meetings for you?
You can come to a Health Homes meeting if you meet both requirements below:

· You are in KanCare AND

· You have a serious health condition, like mental illness, asthma, or diabetes
 
If you are not in KanCare or don’t have a one of the serious health conditions above, you will not be in a Health Home. If you are a provider we ask that you do not come to these meetings as space is limited. Only providers who are there to help patients should attend.
 
If you have questions, please call 1-785-296-3981. If you need special assistance for a meeting (like a sign language interpreter or handouts in Braille) please call Cindy at 785-296-4753. You can also email us at healthomes@kdheks.gov

You must ask for this help by noon on February 13th.  Transportation to the meetings is not available. We will have two meetings on the same day in each of the cities we visit. You should only attend one meeting.  Meetings will be in the afternoon and evening. The afternoon meetings will start at 1:00 PM and end at 3:00 PM.  The evening meetings will start at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM.  Please see the dates and places below.  We hope to see you there.

Topeka: Youth Development Concept Paper Now Available


The Foundation is pleased to issue a call for concept papers for our Youth Development initiative - which will fund collaborative programs/projects which teach useful skills and build self-confidence of young people ensuring capable, effective leaders for the next generation. We anticipate awarding grants of $15,000.00 or less to each awardee with final decisions made in late April. 2014 Funding Initiatives & Deadlines Announced

Additionally, if you have not heard about Topeka Gives 2014 or have questions you need answered before signing your participation agreement, feel free to contact me. The deadline for submitting that agreement is February 20, 2014 and only those Shawnee County organizations who have completed/submitted the agreement will be participating. We are so pleased with the positive response we're receiving and want to be sure we include everyone who is interested!

Turner School of Construction Management - March 2014 Class: Now Accepting Applications

Turner School of Construction Management - March 2014 Class

The Turner School of Construction Management of Kansas City is proud to be in its 17th year. Since our inception, we have graduated over 600 individuals from our program. Businesses should be in the construction industry and/or a construction-related field. These classes are designed to enhance the technical and managerial skills of small, minority and women-owned businesses, in order to make a profit, build a reputation of efficiently managing a construction contract, and increase their ability to be competitive. Key Turner staff and industry experts members instruct all of the classes.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Small, minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned and disadvantaged businesses that are general contractors, specialty contractors, construction managers, construction consultants, and other companies that work closely with construction firms. The class is open to individuals who are interested in starting a construction or construction related business.

 

CLASS SCHEDULE: Classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning March 11, 2014 and ending May 13, 2014.

 

CLASS LOCATION: The Builders' Association Training Center. 105 West 12th Avenue North Kansas City, Missouri 64116

 

COST OF PROGRAM: There is NO COST to program participants; however, participation in the Turner School of Construction Management is a commitment to attend a minimum of 6 classes in order to receive a certificate of completion.
