2012 National Transitional Jobs Network Conference

Restoring the Promise of Work: Subsidized Employment & Transitional Jobs

Baltimore, MD I April 12-13, 2012

A disproportionate number of people with barriers to labor market entry - including those with little or no work history or skills, those living in unstable housing, those with criminal records, and individuals with low literacy - continue to face alarming rates of unemployment far surpassing national averages.

Subsidized employment and Transitional Jobs programs support access to employment, earned income and real work experience for those with employment barriers. Given the realities of our current labor market and the challenges that lay ahead, the mandate for the Restoring the Promise of Work Conference is to advance the field of Subsidized Employment and Transitional Jobs. Through cutting-edge content, user-friendly resources, peer-learning opportunities and discussions, the goals of the conference are to:

  • Bolster existing programs serving people with barriers to employment through adoption of best and promising practices;
  • Expand the dialogue about federal, state and local investment and support of Subsidized employment and Transitional Jobs programs; and
  • Nurture new research and innovation about how best to support labor market entry and advancement for hard to employ individuals.
