As you may know, a priority of Kansas Rehabilitation Services is to increase the competitive, integrated employment of people with the most significant intellectual disabilities. Our Great Expectations Initiative (GEI) is intended to identify and test promising practices in service delivery that will result in increased employment outcomes and reduced reliance on non-work day services, waiting lists or sub-minimum wage jobs. GEI is currently being piloted by the Sedgwick County Developmental Disability Organization, Wichita, and the Disability Planning Organization of Kansas, Salina.
As part of the GEI effort, we are pleased to offer a free three-day internship on effective employment-focused service delivery strategies. Topics include the discovery assessment process, job matching, job-site training and business partnerships. A more detailed agenda is attached. The internship will be taught by technical experts from the University of Kansas Center on Developmental Disabilities and the National Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Workplace Supports and Job Retention at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The training will be held as follows:
12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 13 through 3 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 Disability Determination Services
2820 SW Fairlawn Road
Topeka, Kansas
