KCDD Grant opportunity for Project SEARCH

Please review and share the attached announcement regarding Project SEARCH training and grant opportunity through the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Would you like to be part of an international movement that is changing the face of employment for youth with developmental disabilities?  If yes, please join the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities in welcoming Erin Riehle, Co-Founder and Director of Project SEARCH, back to Kansas.  Spend a day with Erin learning about the program, what's been happening across Kansas in the past three years and how to start Project SEARCH in your community.

Project SEARCH is an internship program for high school youth with developmental disabilities who want to work.  We target students in their last year of high school eligibility and immerse them in a host business.  Student interns learn marketable and transferrable job skills that will lead them to competitive, integrated employment.  There are 235 active Project SEARCH programs internationally with an average success rate of 68% job placement within three months of graduation.

This training is appropriate for educators, policymakers, advocates, parents, Vocational Rehabilitation, community service providers, businesses and ANYONE who is interested in the education and employment of youth with developmental disabilities.

Grant opportunities through the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities will be ending soon.  Grant recipients receive technical assistance from the national team, as well as the Kansas Project SEARCH sites, and start-up funds.  We hope to invest in three or more school-based pilot sites before the end of 2014.
