Community Garden Funding deadline extended


The deadline for submission of proposals is being extended to Friday 4 May 2012.


 

 

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Minority Health Announces: Fiscal Year 2012 Community Garden Funding

 

To address the nutritional needs of communities as they work to improve health status and decrease obesity rates the Community Garden Project was created as a means of addressing food deserts within the urban core, and rural/frontier communities.

 

The Region VII Office of Minority Health will fund communities that want to develop, continue, or expand urban gardens that will grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs for consumption by the communities where the gardens are located.  The gardens should engage local community members and encourage youth participation.

 

Eligibility:

·         The following types of organizations are eligible to apply for funding: Community Block Associations, Community Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, Tribal Communities, and Youth Groups

·         Organizations applying for funding must possess a; 

o   Data Unique Number (DUNS) http://smallbusiness2.dnb.com/ and be registered with

o   Central Contract Registration (CCR) https://www.bpn.gov/CCR/default.aspx

·         Organizations applying for funding must be located with the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska and gardens must be located in one of those states.

Number of Contracts to be funded: Ten-One Thousand ($1,000.00) contracts will be funded.

 

Important Dates:

May 4, 2012 - Completed contract must be submitted to the Office of Minority Health

December 31, 2012 – Final Report and Invoice must be submitted to the Office of Minority Health

 

Project Planning and Completion:

All funded projects must begin planning in the Spring of 2012 and all projects must be completed by December 2012.

 

Document Submission:

All documents must be submitted via e-mail to tracy.branch@hhs.gov

 

Payments:

Project funding will be made via direct deposit into the bank account associated with the DUNS number used on this proposal.

50% of the payment will be made within six (6) weeks of submission of an invoice.

Remaining 50% of the payment will be made within six (6) weeks of submission of the final report.
