Throughout the history of our Great America many innovative Americans have helped bring our country to and thru many eras.

There was George Washington who set a  precedence for honesty and integrity. George Washington Carver the agricultural chemist,  Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the advancement of civil rights, Thomas Edison who invented the light bulb, Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Alexander Graham Bell, Lewis Howard Latimer, Grandview T. Woods the list is inexhaustible.  Without the contributions of these people we would live in a completely different environment. Can you imagine leaving home without your cell phone? You can thank Nikola Tesla for the convenience of wireless devices.

At some point we must all ask ourselves, are we born to be who we are or are we a product of our environments.  If we are born into greatness then parental involvement is a moot topic.  Educational achievement is redundant and practice may or may not make people better. However, if we are all a product of our environments then the people that raised you and the people that were a part of your daily lives are the reason that you are who you have become.

Our perspective at 40/40 Stepping Stones focuses on the balance between who a person is and who they have the potential to become.  We seek to be the educational influence in the lives of our youth between the ages of 7 and 18 years old.  We began helping our community youth achieve a comfortable balance in 2009.  During 2009, we developed a personal development program that was designed to teach youth to use their talents and skills to generate an income.  We called this program Business Empowerment Network.

Since 2009 we have worked with many youth.  They have been taught the dynamics of a business plan and how to create a strategic plan.  Approximately 23% have started and run a profitable business.  We are very proud of all of our B.E.N. program participants. While in our program youth have learned how to set measurable goals, explain the limitations of budgets and explain why good customer service is important.  In addition, our youth have learned effective conflict resolution techniques, improved their grades and learned how to work effectively in a team.

Our 2012 Business Empowerment Network, youth entrepreneurship program, workshops will begin in April 2012.  Workshops will be every Wednesday at 6p starting April 4, 2012.  All workshops last for 2 hours.  The topics for each workshop are as follows:

Setting Goals
Personal Budgeting
Investment Spending
Customer Service
Money Management
Psychology of Business
Psychology of Employment
Government Regulations
Tough Decision Making
Niche Marketing
Research Days, 3rd Wednesday of every month (April, May & June)

We are currently recruiting volunteers to lead our workshops. We need mentors who are willing to share their experiences with our young scholars. You don't have to be a teacher or have teaching experience. All you need to have is life experience to help our youth learn how to make financially sound decisions.  We implore you to get involved.  If you are available on any Wednesday during the months of April, May and June 2012, please sign up, we need you.

If you are not able to participate in one of our workshops but you know someone who may be interested , please forward our information along.

Sincerely,
