Dear MLK Mentor Day Organizer:
Every young Black man in America should memorize, know and exhibit the Six Core Values of Muhammad Ali. For MLK Mentor Day, please create awards and acknowledgements for those young men who memorize, know and exhibit these six values. Please put signs up in the rooms and hallways where you will mentor young Black men listing these six values. Please create wallet cards, flyers and posters to hand out to your young Black men with these six values so that they may take them home to study. Please have a discussion with your young Black men about these six values for at least 15 minutes on MLK Mentor Day. At the end of the session, please consider awarding one young Black man the MLK Mentor Day Muhammad Ali Award.
The values are:
Confidence | Belief in oneself, one's abilities, and one's future. |
Conviction | A firm belief that gives one the courage to stand behind that belief, despite pressure to do otherwise. |
Dedication | The act of devoting all of one's energy, effort, and abilities to a certain task. |
Giving | To present voluntarily without expecting something in return. |
Respect | Esteem for, or a sense of the worth or excellence of, oneself and others. |
Spirituality | A sense of awe, reverence, and inner peace inspired by a connection to all of creation and/or that which is greater than oneself. |
